I have been very impressed with Sean’s coaching techniques in my 997 cup car, and the 997 RS. I learnt a huge amount at Snetterton in the pouring rain, using Dunlop wets. Also at Silverstone in dry conditions on slicks.
He is also coaching me on racecraft, in using the full potential of the car and all the available kerbs and grass corners of the circuit. And other areas of racing a cup car.. (adjusting and using brake bias…heel and toe downshifting whilst maintaining full brake pressure… not as simple as it sounds.. trail braking into apex, etc)

Had an evening session at Silverstone with Sean this week.
Really enjoyed it as well as learnt more about braking points and carrying speed through corners.
I asked that we spend time looking at braking and was amazed that by working on the transition from throttle to brakes I had so much more time to do everything more smoothly.
I have previously put data traces against Kens data and could see where I was losing time – now I think I understand why.
Good few hours well spent and only spun once
Believe it or not but that was my first spin in the RS so must have been trying harder.

Just to add my two pence worth here, I had a day’s instruction with Sean earlier this week at Brands Hatch, my first time with him. He was excellent, extremely patient, very easy going, I learnt an awful lot and I’d have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.
I reckon he managed to get at least 20secs off my lap time – and that’s round the Indy circuit! But then the only thing I was doing right in the beginning was holding the steering wheel correctly! Other than that I was of the school of “hard on the brakes; only brake in a straight line; hard on the throttle when you hit the apex” type track day driving – not good in a 911. Trail braking? What the hell is that? Poor old Sean had to deal with a middle aged complete novice and he did it very well. It took me most of the day to get the hang of things and begin to drive a lot more smoothly (at least I think I was driving smoother, Sean may disagree) and now I need to book more track days just to practice before I have another day with Sean later this year to perfect my non-existant skills further.
If anyone out there is contemplating having some instruction I’d thoroughly recommend Sean.

His was my first track day ever taking my 996 TT to the Bedford circuit on 26th of Jan. I thought the best way to explore the car/track and my ability(or lack of it) to drive it would be along side someone that knows all the afro mentioned and give you some pointers towards what you should aim at. I enjoyed the day immensely and to the point I have to say I am a bit of a addict now.
Sean’s` relaxed and professional attitude towards his work contributed a lot towards it as he would point out different things during the course of the day to improve your driving. This would range from the very basic things like holding the steering wheel the right way to what lines to take and how to fully take advantage of the track and your car. The layout of the track with lots of run-offs is perfect for a novice. It was mind blowing to see him in action driving my car and to see what the car was capable of really for the first time and according to him he was only using 80% maximum of its full capacity! It must be a scary experience being on the passenger side of his GT3 when he is racing!
The only downside of the day was us being black flagged due to noise restriction at 2:30 PM when we were giving the car the full beans. I have a tubi exhaust and the ecu is Revo tweaked so there lays the explanation. Hopefully if you have a standard turbo it will sail through the day.
Sean is the guy for you if you want someone who is not grumpy in his approach(unlike some stories I have heard about other instructors) and highly professional and good at what he does.

After a number of trackdays on my own I decided it would be time to actually learn how to start driving properly round a track! After reading the reviews posted here I decided to book Sean for the day at Bedford Autodrome on the 12th.
After a few laps it was apparent how little I actually knew, Sean started to point out some of my basic errors and improvements I could make. His manor of coaching was excellent, very polite and realistic, without overloading me with information, it was all one step at a time which was perfect.
After the first half of the day I really started to get into the swing of things and started to make some real progress. I will certainly be booking Sean again in the not so distant future to further Saturdays learning curve. Can’t wait!
Only downside was being black flagged for being too noisy, (standard F430 F1) however Sean managed to pull a few strings to get us back on track, even better value for money!

I used Sean Edwards on the recent track day on the 30th Nov at Brands Hatch. He may be young, his instruction was clear, not overwhelming and to the point. From the video footage now reviewed I was laping the Indy Brands Circuit in the morning at around 60 secs. As the day progressed and after my session with Sean, I was out in the driving rain on worn Toyo R888’s lapping at the same 60 secs I was in the dry morning.
Still, I have much to learn and I will be using Sean again.

I did a day at Bedford on Saturday (new extended GT cirquit), and had hired Sean Edwards for the full day.
By way of background I have done loads of track days over many years in a variety of cars (Elise, 968, Caterham and now a GT3). I am normally in the faster group of comparable cars, but by no means the fastest. I had been to Bedford many times before. I am mostly self taught, normally getting tuition for a session when going to a new circuit. I do track days because I enjoy the sensation of speed, want to be a better driver and learn proper car control rather than setting fast lap times per se.
I was sceptical to the VFM of spending £500 in this manner prior to the day. I doubt I could have been more wrong. This is the best performance upgrade I have made, alongside the suspension set up.
We spent the first session looking at my driving, then coming in and systematically going through what I did well and where I could improve. Areas of weakeness were braking (too soft at the initial stages), turn in points (too early on slow corners, too random on faster corners) and lines through corners (makes one wonder if there was actually anything I was doing right?…..). Then Sean took me out for a few laps to show what he had just told me, and also did a couple of quick laps (that was truly quick and worth the money alone).
The rest of the day was spent implementing his suggestions for dealing with these points, in particular trail braking into corners, first the slow ones then the fast ones, combined with picking better turn in points. The results are nothing short of astonising. My lap times dropped in excess of 12 seconds from the first dry run to the last session of the day. Admittedly the track got faster during the day, and I think most people’s speed improves during the day anyway. However, even comparing my second to last and last sessions when I was getting the hang of what Sean was telling me, I gained 4 seconds largely because my trail braking improved. My car control is now better, my understanding of reading lines is improved, I am driving less on the limit and consequently feel safer. Being faster was not neccessarily my objective, but the lap times are a quantifyable measure of the result – I actually felt I was pushing harder earlier in the day than towards the end. The value of the day exceeded my every expectation.
For those of you looking at dedicated tuition and like me thinking it is expensive, based on this experience it is exceptional value for money, particularly if one can share the intructor over a couple of cars.
I can strongly recommend Sean. He is calm and lets you drive the car, giving pointers along the lap, rather than wanting to drive the car from the passenger side. Different styles will work for different people, Sean’s worked very well for me, and I will definitely be using him again.
On the down side, with my new found pace, the Parr Stage 1 set up now feels soft, particularly at the back…….

Did Silverstone GP again with Sean … both the dry part and the wet part. Wonderful day, full of new learning experiences. I had my new, Andy Priaulx-approved mini-map of the circuit firmly taped to my dashboard. That, plus Sean continually rapping me on the top of my helmet with his clipboard (joking…), I managed to keep it completely between the white lines the entire day. A first for me, I must sheepishly admit. The wet sessions were particularly educational. We explored completely different lines from those of the morning’s dry sessions, looking finding plenty of grip, with different braking points, power application points, and a *lot* of discussion about the need to be smooooooth. It was a day filled with red flags, even in the dry, but particularly after it wasn’t. Lots of agricultural and gravel trips by others, but NONE by me. And the M40 worked like a charm.

Sean was with me last Thursday at Combe – what a fabulous day we had. Not only is he one of the quickest guys around in a 997 GT3 RSR, he has a brilliant instructing technique too. Loads of suggestion – ‘you could brake a little later here’, ‘try getting on the power a bit earlier here’, ‘try approaching this turn-in point a foot or so to the left’… that encourages you to try things out in a measured way. I really felt that the learning process was solid and memorable and some significant progress was made.

Had the Sean treatment yesterday…
All my previous instructors were trying to make me dance in my C2S, Sean was like an SAS bulldog!!! Cutting lines up, getting “in there” to maximise your potential, aggressive yet controlled, no point in asking me which of my instructors I would put my money on to win races. The only sad thing is the gigantic amount of time and effort (=money) I need to put into making myself mediocre at best. I cannot let this stand so clearly I will have to bite the bullet and work myself into a more aggressive stance and practice.
Sean is the difference between someone wanting to track his car and someone wanting to win races, just be prepared to get a shock if you have only done trackdays like me.

It was a very slippery in the morning and I managed to spin twice – on one of them, whilst sliding backwards across the grass towards a gravel trap, Sean grabs the wheel saying ‘Try to stay out of the gravel!’ and keeps us clear. As ever, he keeps his cool! I’m finally getting there through Bridge – never realised quite how quickly you can go there!

Spent Saturday 4th August with Sean at Bedford Gran Turismo.
Had a great day and picked up lots of tips and tricks which brought instant results, being a biker with only a few track days in the car I definitely needed it.
Like others have said, if you want to see how slow you really are just wait until he gets behind your wheel and shows you how it should be done ! Note however that if you’ve got a red sticker for being on the noise limit this might not be a good idea as we got black flagged on his first lap. The marshal’s were cool though and gave us a chance; we just lowered the boost on the car and took it a little bit easier for the rest of the day.
Was caught out by the noise limit, as previous tests have been done at 3,000 and the car has been 98, but Bedford was done at 4,500 where the car starts to get really noisy.
I will definitely be using Sean again, will make sure it’s somewhere with a higher limit though.

I did a day recently with Sean at Spa in my GT3. I have had other instructors before and I know Spa well. Still I thought it was worthwhile, you can tell Sean is a racer, he took the wheel to start and demonstrated that my car had still quite a bit of reserve. His lines are also lines to outbrake people or fight for position. They were certainly different from what others had told me in the past. Still, if his lines made him European champion, they must be pretty effective. I can definitely recmmend the experience

Sean is without doubt not only a talented driver… but has a great way to instruct… I fully recommend Sean if you want a great track day and learn to drive MUCH better…. much better than spending the money on making the car go faster…
My baseline was pretty rubbish to start with but at the end I was passing faster cars… just due to Seans prompts on taking the right line…when to push on and whan to start braking…. it is amazing how late you can brake if you are in a straight line and have the right approach… I won’t be attempting this on my own without a lot more coaching !!!

My colleague and I recently undertook a days driver training with Sean at Donington Park and like many days this year – it was tipping down.
Our car for the day was a hired Lotus Exige of which neither us of had ever driven before. So in summary, a track under water, a car none of us had ever driven and novice drivers who’d never taken part in a car track day before, Nice! Sean arrived early and introduced himself and we talked through the ‘challenging’ conditions and how best to tackle them. Obviously the early sessions were tentative but Sean talked us carefully through lines, braking and throttle technique to get the most from the car and track in it’s soaking state. The pace increased throughout the day despite no let up in the rain and after lunch with several timely interventions from Sean (okay – saving lurid slides!) we even overtook several other cars. The car and ourselves survived unscathed after a throughly enjoyable day of which we felt we’d learnt a lot from Sean that we could use in
the future. So would we do it again? Definitely!

Thanks to Sean for a great day at Silverstone yesterday, despite the very wet weather and a red flag waving festival. Having him instructing was invaluable, especially given the track conditions were treacherous, going from:
dry -> wet -> very wet -> can’t see a bloody thing -> wet -> dry -> very wet -> partly wet
It was my first day on track and I learnt a lot, just rather more about the wet lines and watching out for other cars spinning than I would have liked. I will be coming back and hopefully next time we can work on the dry lines …

I booked Sean for Rockingham at the start of July. Weather wasn’t great but the tuition was pretty awesome. Being taught the right way to drive a 911 gives you far more confidence. I have read so much bad press about ceramic brakes on GT2/GT3 cars but now I have seen them work as they are supposed to, I think they are pretty damn good! Sean showed me what my car “can” do too, which was worth the money alone! I just now need to spend some time stringing it all together and invest in some better tyres. I need something good for the road and track, seems the Pilot Sport 2s are popular?

I had a great day with Sean at Spa Francorchamps. I have very limited track experience (only 1 day) and after a couple of laps, Sean gave me upbeat feedback, but told me my car could handle much more. He took over. He had, for obvious reasons never driven a Targa (with cruise control) . My god, the Targa was the fastest car on the track, flying past Turbo’s and GT3’s (not in the straight line I must say). I picked up a lot from watching him drive my car and yes, when I was back at the wheel I had gained a lot of confidence in the car and passed several 997’s and GT3’s around Francorchamps. I hope to go back soon!

Great day at the Brands Hatch GP circuit last week. I really liked the way we only worked on the couple of important things I asked about – mainly having to do with braking and transitioning back onto the power. I now feel much more confident with later braking points and easing off the brakes while beginning the turn-in. Does wonders for reducing the inherent understeer built into the TT and makes for a much better feeling initial turn-in. Thanks also for the detailed notes you sent me for my next trip there (solo). Won’t forget about the (short) full power run down from Druids to Graham Hill bend!

One of the main things he teaches you is to have confidence in your car, both through explaining what you can do, and then showing you what it’s really capable of. Amazing to see him catch a 997 GT3 in a 17 year old 964 – just shows how important driver skill is! Good instruction is so much more worthwhile than throwing money at the car (that comes later!). It was amazing to see what he could do with my car, and give you the confidence to push further.
He’s a patient and relaxed teacher as well – essential when I kept making the same mistakes, but by the end of the day I was putting some reasonable laps in. I’ll definitely be booking him again.

Thanks for helping me unravel the mysteries of Silverstone yesterday. A very fast and challenging circuit, indeed. And it was a lot different (and enjoyable) than Brands Indy was in the rain last December.
By the last couple of sessions I felt very comfortable with the vast majority of what I was doing. And I know that even one or two more laps would have solved the Luffield problem as well. Even I could see cars in front of me driving very poor lines in comparison to what I was attempting, per your instruction.
And watching you passing GT3’s and a 993TT was a thrill (for me anyway) and certainly proved it’s driver skill that really counts. Maybe those new turbos I was considering really aren’t necessary after all (?). Looking forward to seeing you at Brands GP in June.

I got a whole lot better (not hard!) with a day under Seans supervision in my scooby. Sean instills just the right level confidence, so each circuit you just get better and better. At the end of the day, we were flying past GT3s in an sti just down to seans instruction on taking the right line and gear changes. I had Sean as a gift! I can honestly say it’s the best present I’ve ever had.
Well more precisely Sean was hired to give me track day tuition at Bedford GT on the 17th March (an early birthday present). I had done a few track days already and knew the basics but was starting to get frustrated at my lack of knowledge. I wanted someone very experienced who could guide me through the techniques and help me learn my car’s capabilities without me running it into a wall etc.
I took my own car (Mk3 MR2) and had a great day. So much so that by the end I was overtaking several cars that are a lot faster than mine. In addition it was amazing seeing what Sean could do with the car – it showed me that it was more about the driver than the car and now I have something to aspire to!
The cheapest performance modification you can make if you want to go faster is to the driver. A day with Sean will have your driving vastly improved! Who would have thought that an MR2 (with no turbos or other major performance modifications involved) can overtake Porsche’s! I actually had blue flags out in my honour instead of me being the one to get out of the way!
If you want someone to show you what your car is capable of AND go someway towards doing the same yourself then book Sean (though not too many of you that I don’t ever get a look in with Sean again). Sean is a good tutor and easy to get on with.
A word of warning though – Sean’s services are very competitively priced but once you’ve had a day with him you’ll be hooked and then it gets very very expensive with all of the track days you start planning and the possibility of considering some racing as well. I think my husband could well regret his decision to buy Sean as a present for me! 🙂

Sean, great day yesterday – the weather not withstanding! I really appreciated your very focused approach to improving my driving style. You gave me a “few” very important things to work on, not a grocery list of generic ideas. Your approach was very personal, professional and friendly.
I’m serious about improving, so I’d do it again in a heartbeat, given my experience yesterday. Please do send me your spreadsheet of available days in 2007, but this time I’m going to demand sunshine – or at least not bucketsful of rain. Maybe then I can keep it between the white lines the entire day. But now I have the experience of one full track day in the wet and know that I can drive in those conditions.

If you’re the sort of person who finds it rewarding to peddle your car around the circuit with a bit of gusto … pushing your limits further then at some point it usually pays handsome dividends to find someone who can help to take you to the next level (assuming that’s what you’re looking for).
If so then do yourself a favour and give Sean a call
He’s more than willing to share his considerable driving experience with you as I found.
Yes of course you can try and improve your own technique and speed through trial and error but for me those “eureka” moments have become very haphazard and random in their arrivals.
Spent a cold but dry day at Donington … and it was tremendous with Sean’s input. First time at the track and what a fabulous Circuit … I’m definitely going back for more as soon as I can
And the instruction? In my opinion Sean has a very friendly, mature, patient and professional approach. I learnt a shedload of things from him … and to cap it off he comes across as a nice genuine fellow.
The Hot Laps with him at the controls of my car was worth the trip up to Donington by itself … he had my car dancing through the Craner Curves with some amazing 4 wheel drifts.
Thoroughly enjoyed the day …
